The worst fishing trip ever

Review of Fishing the Bay - A Kid Friendly Fishing Charter

  • Eric Kansas Sep 13 2015 12:35am

This was the most awful experience I have ever had on a fishing trip. We start the trip off by telling the "captain" (and I use that term loosely) that my son can not swim (one of the reasons why we booked this trip) and he didn't even have a life jacket that would probably fit my child. We caught 4 fish in four hours some of the time was used so that the "captain" could catch bait which I thought he should of already of had prepared. Also we asked about our fishing license that was included in the price and he said that everything was fine. I have been fishing across the country and there has never been a time where I did not have to sign a fishing license until now. The only "keeper" that was caught was kept by the "captain". This is NOT a kid friendly fishing trip I would NEVER recommend this to anyone nor would I ever recommend trip shock to book anything through.

Jennifer, We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your fishing trip. At TripShock, transparency with our customers is one of our highest priorities. It's important that our guests read the tour listing/voucher completely before booking to avoid these type of issues. First off, this captain is one of the most experienced captains in Destin with 20+ years experience. The reviews below speak for themselves regarding his ability to provide an exceptional fishing experience. Since we are selling a 'kids fishing trip', the captain has life jackets that fit kids - this is required by the coast guard. We may not carry a life jacket that fits every kids perfectly, but they are OK by coast guard standards. Catching bait is part of the experience. If you go out to the East Pass on any given morning, you'll see several fishing boats catching bait. Usually this takes no more than 30 minutes or so and the kids have fun doing it. And lastly, we would never put our customers out on an unlicensed vessel. When you are a registered charter boat, your customers do not need a fishing licence. The charter company pays a fee for their customers to fish on their vessel. You can read more about it here http://myfwc.com/license/saltwater/commercial-fishing/charter/. If you have any further questions regarding your fishing trip, please let us know.

    Not bad

It was ok but could’ve been a little more enthusiastic being a “kid” geared trip. My son had fun but being we’re from West Texas we don’t get to do a lot of fishing in the ocean and we didn’t feel like the guide cared too much that we were there or didn’t care too much to help us out or giving us any guidance. He barely spoke to us and the boat was extremely small, even for 5 people. If the water was any more rough it would’ve been a lot worse getting around I feel like. Like I said, it was an ok trip but not one id recommend to anyone and not one id book again.

    We caught fish!

We signed up for this so that our kids would have a quality experience fishing in the ocean. They got that. They were able to catch a number of fish. Rodeo Joe was constantly at work baiting hooks and setting things up for us. He did great at making sure the kids were able to constantly catch fish. If you're looking for a guide who is chatty and interested in talking with you and your kids, making small talk and explaining to the kids about fishing, baiting, or taking about the fish they caught, this is not the excursion for you. Joe was friendly enough - not rude. But he said very little and did not make it a "kid friendly" experience in that respect.

We had a good time but were disappointed when we showed up and realized it was NOT an offshore charter. We were all excited to experience offshore fishing but didn't get it. I wish I had been made aware of the difference when booking.
